The Bonsai Gift Guide for Singapore: Living Gifts for Christmas 2026
Flowers wilt in a week. Chocolates are gone in a day. A bonsai keeps growing for years, and every time your friend waters it, they'll think of you.
Bonsai have become one of the most popular gifts we send out at Noi Gardens, especially in the run-up to Christmas and Chinese New Year. They fit on a desk or a windowsill, they suit Singapore's climate, and they look far more expensive than they are.
This guide will help you choose the right one, whether you're shopping for a colleague, a parent, or someone who's never kept a plant alive.
Why a bonsai makes a good gift
It lasts. With basic care, a bonsai can live for decades.
It's small. It fits on an office desk, a bedside table or an HDB windowsill.
It means something. In many Asian cultures, bonsai stand for patience, balance and long life. Some, like the jade, are also linked to wealth and good fortune.
It arrives ready to give. Our mini bonsai come already potted, so there's no repotting or wrapping needed.
The best bonsai gifts, by who you're buying for
For a first-time plant owner: Mini Jade Bonsai (S$26.90)

If your friend is worried about killing plants, start here. Jade has thick, fleshy leaves that store water, so it forgives the odd missed watering. It's also known as a "money plant" in Chinese tradition, which makes it a thoughtful gift for someone starting a new job or business.
For the colleague's desk: Mini Kamini Bonsai (S$28.90)

The Kamini (also called orange jasmine) has small, glossy leaves and a neat, tidy shape that looks right at home on an office desk. Given enough light, it can produce small white flowers with a light, sweet scent.
For someone who loves a classic bonsai look: Mini Shimpaku Bonsai (S$59.90)

The Shimpaku is a juniper, and it's the tree most people picture when they think "bonsai." It has dense, needle-like green foliage and a sculpted shape. It's our best-selling bonsai, and an easy choice when you want the gift to feel special.
For someone who already has everything: Mini Black Pine Bonsai (S$59.90)

The Japanese black pine is one of the most traditional bonsai trees in Japan. It's a striking, grown-up gift for a boss, a parent or anyone who appreciates craftsmanship.
For a statement piece: Premna Sekijoju Bonsai Mounted on Rock (S$89.90)

"Sekijoju" means "root over rock." The tree's roots grip a stone, creating a small landscape that looks like it's been growing for decades. This is the one to choose for a milestone gift, a housewarming, or a corporate gift that people will notice.
For something a little different: variegated bonsai (S$26.90 to S$28.90)
Variegated plants have leaves splashed with cream or white, so they look brighter and more unusual than a plain green bonsai. Two of our favourites:

Simple care tips to include with your gift
Bonsai have a reputation for being difficult, but most of the trees above do well in Singapore with a few basics. Feel free to copy these into your gift card:
Give it light. Place it near a bright window, or outdoors on a balcony with morning sun. Most bonsai struggle in a dim corner.
Water when the top of the soil feels dry. In Singapore's heat, that's often every day or two. Water until it drains out of the bottom of the pot.
Don't let it sit in water. Empty any saucer underneath after watering.
Feed and refresh the soil. Every year or two, repot it with a well-draining mix such as our Bonsai Soil Mix (S$15) to keep it healthy.
